Why Mashups Are My Favorite Way to Share Christian Music
For me, DJing has never just been about keeping the crowd moving — it’s about telling stories. And my favorite way to do that is through mashups. They’re more than a creative experiment — they’re a bridge between genres, cultures, and conversations that might not happen otherwise.
The Mashup as a Storytelling Tool
A good mashup can say more than a single track ever could. By pairing two songs with different moods or messages, you create something entirely new.
Sometimes I’ll take an upbeat Christian Hip-Hop anthem and blend it with a soulful R&B groove, letting the energy of one track carry the message of the other. Other times, I’ll put a worship hook over a danceable beat to surprise people — and watch their faces light up when they recognize the lyrics.
Reaching Beyond the Church Walls
One of the most powerful things about mashups is their ability to connect with people outside the church. When you drop a familiar mainstream beat, it draws people in. And once they’re hooked, the lyrics can open their minds and hearts to something deeper.
I’ve had people tell me they came for the music but left thinking about the message — and that’s exactly why I do it.
The Creative Process
When I’m building a mashup, I’m thinking about more than tempo and key. I’m asking:
Do these songs complement each other emotionally?
Will this pairing surprise the listener in a way that sticks with them?
Does the combination move both the body and the heart?
It’s about creating a sonic conversation between two worlds.
Mashups with a Mission
I’m not in this just to get a reaction — I want to start conversations. That’s why I’m intentional with every mashup I create.
Two of my mashups have already gone mini-viral on Instagram, pulling in tens of thousands of views. But the real win wasn’t the numbers — it was the messages I got from people telling me how much the mixes impacted them.
Closing Thoughts
Mashups are my way of making faith both accessible and unforgettable. They’re part of a bigger mission to connect people with the hope and joy that Christian music brings.
